AI trading bots vs EAs: what is the difference?
Updated 10 October 2026 · EzoO Bots
"AI trading bot" is one of the most searched phrases in trading, and also one of the most misused. Many products called AI are ordinary rule-based bots. Here is the honest difference, and what to check before you buy any of them.
What people mean by "AI trading"
In the strict sense, an AI or machine-learning bot learns patterns from past data and adjusts its own model. The rules are not written line by line by a person. In marketing, the word is often used for any automated bot, even when nothing is learned at all.
What a rule-based EA is
A normal Expert Advisor follows rules a person wrote: indicators, distances, lot sizes and exits. It does not learn or change by itself. The upside is that you can read its settings, test it and understand exactly why it opened a trade.
| Rule-based EA | Machine-learning bot | |
|---|---|---|
| How decisions are made | Fixed rules you can see in the inputs | A trained model, often a black box |
| Changes by itself | No | It can, after retraining |
| Backtest you can repeat | Yes, same rules give the same result | Hard; results depend on the training data |
| Main risk | Rules that fail in a new market type | Overfitting: great on the past, weak live |
Is EzoO Frame an AI bot?
No. EzoO Frame is a rule-based grid Expert Advisor. It does not use machine learning, and we do not call it AI. Every decision comes from settings you can see and change: the trend filter, candle distances, news distance, lot progression, take-profit and drawdown limit. We think that is a strength, because you can test it and know what it will do.
Red flags when a bot is sold as "AI"
- Promises of fixed daily or monthly profit, or "no loss".
- No backtest, or results without the settings and the drawdown.
- No free trial or demo test on your own account.
- Asking for your broker password or to send money to them to "trade for you".
